At the start of your HR career you are often responsible for advertising roles, helping shortlist and manage vacancies. This module covers how to run a recruitment process, write great adverts and manage candidates effectively.

Induction and On-boarding

Managing induction and on-boarding processes is often HR’s responsibility. Getting it right is essential for making sure new employees get up to speed quickly. Learn how to run induction and onboarding effectively.

Writing HR policies

Making your policies more effective may not be exciting, but is important. Learn how to engage and adapt your policies for different styles, fishhooks around policies and how to build your managers engagement and ownership so they’ve not an ‘HR’ thing.

What our students say:

Here are some recent graduates of the Certificate in HR Fundamentals, and what they thought of their study.

★★★★★

Overall, I would rate the Certificate very highly, 10 out of 10! I enjoyed the feedback, because it enabled me to view my work from a different perspective.  The suggestions were helpful and pragmatic, prompting me to re-read my submission and consider what else might be happening.  I have practically applied the feedback within my role, and I feel that this programme has helped me develop and mature into the HR space.  I am a lot more confident in my contribution to the team.  It has been a wonderful learning experience, and I really appreciate the wonderful resource of Elephant. It helped me grow my confidence, expand my HR knowledge, and gave me tools I can immediately apply in the workplace. The combination of real-life scenarios, communication focus (including adapting to different bird styles), and supportive, thoughtful feedback made it a valuable and practical learning experience.

★★★★★

I would rate the certificate highly as I believe it has given me the confidence to push further. It has identified where my strengths are and what my work-on’s are. Sometimes its easy for me to think I don’t know too much but there were areas that highlighted how much I knew as well as where I can develop to further my career. Some goals were set, and the team have been giving me some great feedback! I have been grateful for the feedback as it has been great for learning and growth. Historically I used to take feedback as failure rather than development and improvement. In the last year I have come to recognise that feedback is vital to improvement and development and now I love receiving feedback.

The certificate was such a good way to expand my skills – I chose it over a 2 day course because I felt that learning the fundamentals over several months would benefit me and my way of learning more and that was certainly the case. I’ve found the biggest and most valuable learning in this certificate to be across Employee Agreements and policies. The assignment working through the clauses in an Employment Agreement was one of my favourites – it was a really good exercise in identifying errors and a great way to strengthen knowledge.

I found all of the feedback from the Elephant team extremely constructive and helpful. Especially when you expressed your ideas on how you may have done or written something differently. It enabled me to see it from another side. I was most proud of completing the the Writing People Policies module – this was the toughest one for me, the question where we had to get the fog index below 10 I found very challenging. When I finally managed it, I was so relieved and impressed. I have also changed how I communicate with certain managers after the clever communications module. This has given me more confidence that I can get my view or advice across more effectively.

I really appreciated how detailed the feedback was and the effort put in to explain what I had done well and what was missing. I appreciated the suggestions on other ways to approach things that I may not have thought of. The feedback added a lot to the learning experience. I feel this course has given me much more confidence as I start my HR journey. I completed the Recruitment certificate last year, and combined with this one I feel I have learnt so much. I really value the input from the team and the support given to me by Elise. I can’t thank you enough. Hopefully I’ll be able to sign up for more in the future.

I am proud of completing the certificate.  I have thoroughly enjoyed applying myself. A lot of what the certificate covered I have learnt in my day-to-day tasks however the study material has given me extra confidence and filled in any knowledge gaps. While also providing reasons behind how and why things work as they do in HR. I learnt from the extra examples that were given as part of the feedback. I was presented with suggestions I hadn’t thought of, and I found this useful to take on board. Often you are so caught up and at your creative limit due to time constraints and not sure how far to push it then you are shown an example, such as a policy as a graphic and it is a light bulb moment! The feedback was constructive and it did challenge me to dig deep and go further! Plus it is nice to feel supported and praised 😊
