This is one of our advanced Employment law workshops. It is designed for:
- Australian HR teams who are responsible for New Zealand, and now having to deal with more advanced and complex employment law issues.
- NZ HR professionals who have a strong ER component in their role and need to know these areas in more detail.
This workshop covers:
- Understanding the difference between poor performance, misconduct and serious misconduct – and what steps need to be taken for each type.
- Performance improvement plans – how they work, templates to use, how to put them in place and how to deal with the challenges that can come up.
- Giving a warning – how to work through a disciplinary process, the letters to write, how to hold the meetings, the fish hooks that can trip you up and the challenges that can occur when making a decision and telling the employee. (There is a short film to watch pre-workshop that covers the key steps – so that in the workshop you can focus on how it applies in real case studies).
- Dismissing an employee – the letters you must write, what to say and do in the meeting, how to deal if things get nasty and how to end employment.

Elephant workshops are practical, outcome-based learning sessions so you’ll leave with useful, real-life tools and templates to use when you get back to work. We also have some great discussions and a bit of fun (yes even learning employment law!). We also answer any questions you have with practical solutions and ideas you can really use.
That’s why our workshops are different! We cover the legislation but also how to apply it, and all our facilitators are both employment law experts but have also worked in HR.
